High School Football COVID Update for Aug. 27/28
UPDATE — McComb has forfeited its game against Jim Hill on Friday, 08/27.
UPDATE — Brookhaven has cancelled its game against Lawrence County on Friday, 08/27.
UPDATE — Wilkinson County has moved to virtual learning as well, so the season opener against Natchez is cancelled. Wilkinson County will forfeit the game and Natchez will not seek a replacement opponent.
UPDATE — Hazlehurst has gone to virtual learning for two weeks, so it’s games 08/27 @ Newton and 09/03 vs. Wingfield are cancelled.
West Lincoln has dropped out of its game against Franklin County due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the Bears’ football team. Franklin County will instead host Bay Springs this week.
Franklin County itself is on a hybrid schedule, with students halving up school days to limit attendance through the end of September. Brookhaven High School began a similar schedule due to COVID this week, set to expire Sept. 3, but as of now the Aug. 28 game against Lawrence County is still on.
The Wesson Cobras were missing quite a few players last week in the Lawrence County Jamboree, but as of now this week’s game at Tylertown is still a go.
South Pike, which went to a virtual learning schedule last week, is not scheduled to play until it travels to Harrison Central on Sept. 3.
