Get Jazzed Up in downtown Brookhaven for Mardi Gras
On Saturday, Feb. 25, you can stay home in downtown Brookhaven and get all jazzed up for Mardi Gras and skip the trip to New Orleans… unless you want to get totally smashed and see boobies, which you probably won’t be able to do in the Homeseeker’s Paradise (but who knows).
Seriously, though… the Brookhaven Tourism Council is hosting Downtown Jazzed Up, a family-friendly Mardi Gras street party featuring live music, a parade, tours of local historic sites and downtown buildings and extended retail hours. The party is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with tours of public buildings (free) and local businesses ($10 armband) starting at 4 p.m. and lasting until 7 p.m.
The public buildings tour will stop at the Lincoln County History Museum, First United Methodist Church, Mary Jane Lampton Auditorium, the Military Memorial Museum and the downtown post office, while the private tour includes Hurst Review Services, First Bank, Duane Allread Financial Group, the Inn on Whitworth and private loft apartments on West Cherokee Street and South Whitworth Avenue.
Live music – featuring the Co-Lin Jazz Band, the Bayou Connection Brass Band and The Bridge Band – begins at 6:30 p.m.
