Historical group presentation to focus on Whitworth College
It wasn’t always the Mississippi School of the Arts.
It used to be Whitworth College, a Methodist women’s school first opened in 1858. It has had a long history in the Homeseeker’s Paradise, serving as a Confederate hospital, an annex to Millsaps College and several other institutions before closing in 1984 and reopening again in 2003 as MSA.
That’s the 50,000-foot view: the real story is being presented by the Lincoln County Historical and Genealogical Society on Thursday, Jan. 26. The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. at the offices of Hurst Review Services on South Railroad Avenue.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Attendees are encouraged to bring any photos or other Whitworth memorabilia for a “show and tell” session.
