Republicans bring the pain on election day: Lincoln County official results
Republicans spend big bucks and win convincingly. Democrats… forgot to vote, maybe?
Everyone knows the news by now, but here are the most-official results to check out (a few paper ballots are not included in this tally, but there aren’t enough of them to change any outcomes).
Bobby Moak has been in office since the mid-1980s, and I was pretty surprised to see him go down. Republicans take over one of Southwest Mississippi’s most far-ranging House districts with their man Vince Mangold. Republicans also strike down Democratic tax collector Rita Goss and place Blake Pickering in the office after he won big. And after four years off, Bobby Watts returns to the board of supervisors, now a Republican after his own political road-to-Damascus event last election.
Also, Republican sheriff Steve Rushing continues throw down on election day, winning another four years. Brookhaven’s statewide player, Cindy Hyde-Smith, wins big time for another term as commissioner of agriculture. And Initiative 42 gets slapped down in confusing results that, after being interpreted by experts, will probably show voters weren’t quite sure what to do.
