All the current info on police shootout in Brookhaven last night
Dozens of police officers traded shots with a suspect who had barricaded himself into an apartment at Brookhaven Apartments on Union Street Monday night, and the hours-long showdown ended with the suspect dead and a couple of cops with minor injuries.
Rudolph Smith, 31, was allegedly evicted from the apartment and refused to leave, with cops arriving on the scene around 6 p.m. Monday. The police presence grew and grew to eventually include a SWAT team from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, and the streets surrounding the apartment complex were closed. Multiple law enforcement officials confirmed the suspect’s death around midnight, and Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell says two BPD officers received minor wounds from shrapnel – probably the result of the suspect’s gunfire penetrating the apartment door.
